Greeting videos for every occasion: one craft, a whole calendar

Valentine's, Mother's Day, Father's Day, anniversaries: the greeting-video calendar, what changes per occasion, and the four rules that never change.

Personal greeting videos run on a calendar: Valentine's in February, Mother's Day and graduations in spring, Father's Day in June, then the year curves toward Christmas cards and New Year greetings, with birthdays and anniversaries scattered throughout. The occasions differ; the craft does not. This is the hub for the family: what changes per occasion, and the four rules that never do.

The four rules that never change

  1. Specificity beats production value. One real photo and one true sentence outperform any template's polish. The generic version of every occasion video already exists in the recipient's chat; only specifics compete.
  2. Short and vertical, because chat is the venue. Fifteen to thirty seconds, 9:16 or square, legible without sound; these travel by WhatsApp and Instagram, and the muted-feed rules apply to grandma's phone too.
  3. One tone per video. Funny or tender, pick one; the mixed-tone greeting lands neither.
  4. Restraint in decoration. Hearts, flowers, and confetti are seasoning. The photo and the words are the meal, the same design-steps-back principle that governs the calendar's most solemn format.

What actually changes per occasion

The material and the gesture. Valentine's wants the couple's own photos and an inside reference, it is the most private of the formats, and the most embarrassing when templated. Mother's Day and Father's Day work as gratitude montages, a handful of photos across the years with one line of thanks, and they are the formats where adult children's group chats coordinate a joint video, the same collect-and-assemble workflow as a milestone birthday. Anniversaries scale the birthday montage to two people and decades; the chronological arc does the emotional work by itself.

Why this calendar matters to us

Occasion greetings are the purest recurring test of what we build: high emotional stakes, zero design budget, a hard date, and the wish for something that looks made rather than filled in. One engine, one set of occasion templates, your names, photos, and colors as inputs, that is the consumer half of Motionpilot's roadmap, and this calendar is its spec. The waitlist below gets each occasion's templates as they land.
